Abstract: A Fabry-Perot based narrow band imager is being developed at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore for solar studies. This instrument will be able to scan different layers of Sun in Hα and Fe I wavelengths. The instrument comprises, a Fabry-Perot interferometer which is controlled by CS100 controller, a pre-filter assembly, CCD camera, all are housed in a mechanical enclosure that will be attached behind a 40 cm DFM telescope. The whole narrow band imaging system demands complete automation based on computer control. A modular approach was taken to integrate and control different components of the instrument. National Instrument's LabVIEW based software was written to implement a sequence of tasks, temperature control, selecting order sorting pre-filter, Fabry-Perot cavity tuning, image acquisition, and storing the data for later processing. In addition, the software is also intended to provide a hassle free automatic operation and an easy interface between user and the instrument. An experimental scheme for testing the instrument in the laboratory has also been proposed.
