Abstract: A maximal helicity principle is proposed to study the stability of plasma structures in the solar atmosphere. This principle derives from the statistical treatment of the magnetohydrodynamical turbulence. The steady state of the plasma system results from subjecting the system to the invariance of total energy, the magnetic helicity and toroidal and poloidal magnetic fluxes. The statistical distributions of the velocity and magnetic fields are formulated.
