Abstract: The equations describing the linear-acceleration mechanism of radiation emission are generalized and applied to type III and IIIb solar radio bursts. A general expression for the power emitted by an electron in a spatially and temporally periodic electromagnetic/electrostatic field parallel to the ambient magnetic field is derived, allowing for harmonic generation and relaxing the dipole approximation used in previous quantifications of the mechanism. The general expression is used to calculate the radiation due to the electric field generated by saturation-phase beam-plasma instability in the proposed linear-acceleration model of III/IIIb-type solar radio bursts.
