A detailed calculation is given of the distribution of mass above the Galactic plane for any arbitrary mass distribution and velocity distribution. It is shown that an analytic expression can be found for the gravitational field in terms of confluence hypergeometric functions. The behavior of the dispersion of the distance from the Galactic disk for star of given mass is shown to behave as a harmonic oscillator, except for stars of lighter massesen
