dc.description.abstract An overview of the upcoming ASTROSAT mission with its five instruments on board is presented. UVIT instrument is discussed in detail along with the ground calibrations and plans for in-orbit calibrations. The UVIT filter system and their effective areas are presented. General science goals of UVIT are presented and some specific science goals related to star formation are discussed. en
