Phase matrices for higher multipoles of scattering in external magnetic fields

Abstract

Scattering phase matrices for forbidden lines are derived, in the presence of an external magnetic field, using the quantum electrodynamical approach. The particular case of 0 -> 2 -> 0 M2 transitions are considered and Stokes profiles are shown in the strong field (Zeeman) and weak field (Hanle) limits, covering also the regime of intermediate field strengths.
