Production and acceleration of ultra high energy particles by black holes and strings

Abstract

Some possible new mechanisms based on physical processes associated with objects such as black holes and strings are outlined to account for the production of extremely energetic cosmic ray particles (>10/sub20 eV) such as the 300 EeV event.
