Abstract:
We report fast photometric observations of AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn), the ultrashort-period, hydrogen-deficient variable, are reported. An intense flare of (Delta m) peak roughly 0.34 was detected on February 24th, 1985 in white light lasting over 200 s. Following this flare, an enhanced double-humped structure lasting for 1051 s was observed which is the dominant periodicity exhibited by AM CVn. The 525 s and 1051 s periods were also detected. In addition, the authors report flickerings lasting typically 1-2 minutes that are characteristic of cataclysmic variables.
