An instrument capable of measurement of weak longitudinal component of magnetic fields on the sun has been designed and constructed for operation with the horizontal solar telescope and high dispersion spectrograph of Kodaikanal Observatory. Detailed features of the optical and electronic design have been discussed. The instrument uses the principle of the Babcock magnetograph and has additional facilities of simultaneous measurements of Droppler velocities and line core intensities. A photo-electric guiding attachment for the solar image has also been described. The performance of the instrument and reliability of the instruments have been discussed.en
