dc.description.abstractJ. C. Bhattacharyya (JCB) passed away in Delhi on 4 June 2012. An eminent instrumentation scientist and observational astronomer, JCB is well known for his discoveries of the atmosphere of Jupiter’s satellite Ganymede and of the ring system around Uranus. The next generation of scientists he trained and encouraged added further discoveries that include outer rings of Saturn, and six main belt asteroids, one of which bears the name Bhattacharyya.en
