Representative (N -- h) profiles have been obtained from Kodaikanal ionograms covering a period of about one solar cycle, for the study of the effect of solar activity on the ionic densities at different levels in the equatorial ionosphere. The seasonal and Far East anomalies have also been examined. Using the profiles, the total electron content (nT = [is proportional to] Ndh) in the F-region has been evaluated for a study of the diurnal asymmetry. The effective ratio and the slab thickness [rho] of the layer have also been evaluated and the results are discussed.en
