A photoelectric scan of Hβ and a photographic spectrum between λλ 4500-7000 obtained during the 1979 outburst of the recurrent nova U Sco have been studied. The electron density and the mass of ionized hydrogen in the nova shell on june 28.77U.T. as derived from the photoelectric observations are Ne = 6.63X10\sup8 rkpc cm/sup-3 and MhII = 4.41x 10/sup-7 rkpc is the distance to the nova in kpc.en
