The need for experimental data on some of the spectroscopic properties of MgO which may be useful during a further search for MgO in the lower E region of the ionosphere is emphasized. Predicted relative intensities of the bands of the A 1 Pi - X 1 Sigma + transition of MgO from 1.0 to 10 microns are calculated to assist in the search for the presence of this system in the atmosphere.en
