Abstract: An alternative way of looking at the process of comptonization and the roles of the microwave background radiation density and of the ambient magnetic field in the generation of X-rays on the galactic scale is suggested. The proposed system consists of a fast relativistic plasma beam travelling transversely to a static spatially periodic magnetic field which replaces the role of the incident pump radiation. It is shown that by varying the spatial periodicity of the magnetic field, the range of electromagnetic radiation from radio waves to X-rays could be generated by a single mechanism of stimulated Raman scattering or stimulated Compton scattering.
