Abstract: | It is shown that the non-thermal radio radiation from a quasar is intense enough to drive parametric instabilities in the fully ionized emission-line regions. These instabilities cause significant enhancement of the plasma resistivity around the normal modes of the plasma and thus lead to an anomalous heating effect. The maximum plasma temperature is a function of the luminosity of the non-thermal radio radiation and the plasma parameters of the emission-line regions. |
