Milder forms of activity in the nuclear regions of galaxies are reviewed. Three classes of activity are identified, namely starbursts, high-excitation emission-line and low-ionization emission-line nuclei. Sérsic perinuclear systems are also briefly reviewed and it is pointed out that some interesting mildly active nuclei may lie hidden in these systems.en
