Growth of the Centre of Advanced Study in Astronomy at the Osmania University

Abstract

After giving a brief historical introduction, the 48-inch telescope project is traced through its different phases of site survey, construction of the dome and installation of the telescope. Then follows a review of the academic programmes of teaching and research at CASA. The narration ends with the description of some special events at the centre during the last 40 years.
