dc.description.abstract Methods for computing the equilibrium structures and periods of barotropic modes of oscillations of stars which are the primary components of binary systems are presented. The methods utilize the averaging technique of Kippenhahn and Thomas (1970) and the concepts of Roche equipotentials to incorporate rotational and tidal effects. The use of the methods in obtaining the equilibrium structures and eigenfrequencies of barotropic modes of oscillations of certain polytropic models of stars (assumed to be the primary components of synchronous as well as nonsynchronous binary systems) is also illustrated en
