The work done on propagation of waves in magnetic tubes is reviewed. It is seen that majority of the results obtained so far are based on the thin tube approximation. It is shown that estimates of the mechanical energy flux based on such an approximation could be grossly in error. The need for studying the propagation of waves in finite tubes is emphasised. The possibility of non-linear effects altering the propagation characteristics of these waves is pointed out.en
